Obituary of Mary Alice Shuler

Mary Alice Shuler, 82, of Sylva, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday February 27th 2020. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late John and Beaulah Mae Mashburn Bost. Mary was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for over sixty years. She loved reading her Bible, flowers, dolls, bingo and feeding her family. She was all about her family. She had a great sense of humor and was great at telling stories. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Bost; one sister, Grace Melton; and a niece, Patty Bost. Mary is survived her husband of sixty-three years, Donal Shuler; a daughter, Donna Kay Garcia of Sylva; and a son Donal (Jody) Shuler, Jr. (Tammy) of Sylva. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Brandon Wilson, Jason Smith, Araceli Garcia, Cassie Shuler, Carrie Shuler, and Carson Shuler (Kimberly); four great grandchildren, Zeke Smith, Zoey Smith, Ace Smith, and Adeline Shuler. One niece, Connie Painter also survives. Funeral services will be held on Sunday March 1st at 4:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernie Jamison, Mike Moore, and Earl Holden presiding. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
