Obituary of Sibyl Yvonne Blakley

Sibyl Davis Blakley, 74, of Sylva went home to be with her Lord Tuesday September 23, 2014. Born January 4, 1940 in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn Conley Davis. She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Cullowhee. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Michael Anthony Davis. She is survived by 4 daughters- Lori Ponds of Columbia, SC, Lisa Lytle(Ron) of Alexander, NC, Lucille Blakley(Eddie) of Wayehutta and Leslie Blakley of Sylva. Brother- Roderick Blaine Davis of Cullowhee Grandchildren- Maurice, Derrick, Dezaray, Ryan, Dillyn, Darole, Deahnie, Taisa, Alexis, Devin, Romello, Trevon, Tekia and Ron E. Great Grandchildren- James, Hayden, Brayden, Noah, Taia and Angel And a wealth of special friends also survive Sibyl graduated from Jackson High School as Valedictorian where she also starred in basketball and was business editor for the yearbook. She went on to further her education at Dillard University in New Orleans where she studied nursing. She was employed at Western Carolina University for many years. She had a flair for creative recipes. She loved family history and was the family historian. She was instrumental in assisting with the fundraiser and grant writing for the newly developed Golden Age Center. She was very outgoing and social and she loved to read. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday September 28 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Presiding Elder and Pastor Rev.Herbert Grant and Presiding Minister Rev.Damita Jo Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 pm prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt Zion AME Zion Church Cemetery She was prepared to meet her Maker. .
