Obituary of Lou Emma Powell

Lou Emma Dixon Powell, 74, of Sylva passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Lou was born January 10, 1942 in Premier, WV. She is the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and the late Sally (Bailey) Dixon. She enjoyed with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She attended Hish School in Oceana, West Virginia. She also traveled extensively with her late husband, Charles Powell, Sr. during his time in the Air Force to Texas, Ohio, Florida, Alaska, and Alabama. In addition to her parents and husband Lou is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Dixon and two sisters, Shelia Cooke and Samantha Pettiee. She is survived by her children Theodore William (Elizabeth) Powell of Sylva; Charles William Powell, Jr. (Laurie) of Wake Forest; John Edward Powell of Sylva; Melissa Powell (Alan) Dingman of Sylva; Grandchildren Matthew and Megan Powell of Wake Forest; and Sara Opal Elizabeth Dingman of Sylva. Siblings Joyce Dority of Havaco, WV; Laura Atkins of Manassas, VA; Lee (Debbie) Dixon of San Antonio, TX; Ray (Ona) Dixon of Hyee, TX; John (Sandra) Dixon of San Antonio, TX; Gary (Sharon) Dixon of Crossfield, TN. Numerous Nieces and Nephews also survive. The family will receive friends Friday, July 29th, 2016 from 3pm until 5pm at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva. A Funeral service will be held at 5pm following the visitation with the Rev. Avery Brown officiating. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Webster Child Care and Development Center. 1528 Webster Road, Webster, NC 28788. Appalachian Funeral Services has been entrusted with all arrangements.
