Obituary of Kimsey Scott Mathis

Scott Mathis, age 47, of Sylva died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Harris Regional Hospital of Sylva. Mr. Mathis was born February 7, 1969 in Polk County, TN. He is the son of the late Edward Lee Mathis and Mary Sue (Duvall) Woodring. He was married to the former Sherri Settlemyre. He was employed as a delivery driver in the rental company business. He is survived by his wife: Sherri (Settlemyre) Mathis; one son: Colton Moose; his mother Mary Sue (Duvall) Woodring and three sisters: Marina (Joe) Moose, Pam (Randy) Snyder and Julie Straight. He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Edward L Mathis and Larry B Woodring, his grandparents, Claude and Mary N. Mathis and Oliver and Nellie Duvall, and his brother, Mickey Woodring. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, August 1 at Appalachian Funeral Services, with Pastor Tim Pressley officiating. Burial will follow at Woodring Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 31 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services and Crematorium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Appalachian Funeral Services and Crematory 165 Skyland Dr. Sylva, NC 28779 to assist the family with the funeral costs.
