By coincidence of sorts, I was trying to locate and re-connect with Hutch two nights again and came across this notice. Hutch and I were best friends in high school but had little contact after he left for college - although I did come to visit a few times over the years.
At first I was just one of a group of us that hung out together. Then as time went on, we became the best of friends.
It was very painful for me to learn that he had left this world and that I was only two weeks late in having the opportunity to at least speak with him again. He was a wonderful, kind and fun-loving man.
I posted a message on my FB page along with this link and I know that it has been shared at least once. Most of us have spread like leaves in the wind which is sad in, and of, itself. But perhaps others will learn of his passing and they too can be brought to remember all the great times we had together - maybe even bring us together to remember him and those times we had in unison.
I wish a wonderful life to you all, -Thomas Griles
PS: My mom, wished for me to convey her condolences as well - she was very fond of Hutch. I too, was very fond his mother...

My heart is broken to hear the news about Hutch. I can't begin to comprehend what you are going through, and I know there are no words invented that I could say to take your grief away. Hutch was such a good, kind man and my life is richer because I knew him. Please know I am praying that God will hold you all in the palm of His hand, and help you navigate your way on a path you never wanted to walk.
May the teardrops of your sorrow blend with the sunshine of your memories and create a rainbow of peace, comfort, and hope. I know Heaven just became more beautiful.
With much love,

My deepest sympathies to a wonderful family. My years of being blessed with Hutch's friendship are some of the fondest memories of my life. From coaching football to chatting in a lumber yard, to finding out how bad a 50mph driveby high five was, Hutch was always someone who left me feeling better when we parted. He was a blessing to us all and I will always remember and hold him in the highest regards.

I was floored to hear the news of Hutch's passing. He was an understanding, loyal friend and without a doubt, a true man's man. His warm, genuine smile could make you forget what ailed you. Though I hadn't seen John for years the last time we were together, it was like the time evaporated and we remembered stories of the past like they were just yesterday. Hutch, you pulled me thru some rough times back then thru your unwavering friendship. I was blessed just to know you and Phyllis. Some of my fondest memories in life were jamming with you and the boys in King Spontane and the Montanas, "Stacking" beer cans at Grady's and Gary's, and especially, that day in October 1983, sitting in Glenn Liming's Physics class, taking a test when Glen came in and told me I had a phone call. That was when I herd my Granny died and I broke down, shaking and crying. You and I had barely met each other and you comforted me like a brother. You drove me to Asheville so I could catch a flight to the funeral. Well brother, I wish you were here, that shaking and crying just hit me again. I love you Pal and your friendship will stay with me until the day we meet again.
