I will miss Dear Jane. She was not only my friend and colleague, but a vital inspiration in my career endeavors, from WCU to UT-Knoxville. She always followed my progress, and encouraged or congratulated me. Forever in the light you will be. Until we meet again.

We were so sorry to see that Jane died. What a gracious person she was and we were privileged to have known her. You've lost someone who touched the lives of many and who will be deeply missed.

Its been almost a week and I've been able to process some things. As I told Dottie on the phone, some of this I've been preparing for over two years.
I am Jane's nephew. My father, Russell, is Jane's brother.
Jane taught me how to fish. Probably between the ages of 10-14, she would take me to any number of lakes and rivers in North Carolina to fish. She also taught me if you didn't catch anything, head to the fish farm. Either way, you came home a hero!
Jane taught me to keep my privilege in perspective. I've probably only put it all together now as a middle-aged adult, but being a white male has is privileges. I need not flaunt it or abuse it.
Jane taught me to stay curious.
Jane, along with my father, taught me to reject racism and other prejudice. They had the burden of disowning the racism inherent in our family, both explicit and latent. This is a gift they gave to me and my children and cannot be quantified.
I originally planned on speaking at Jane's funeral for Dottie, but life has other plans. As my father's health grows increasingly worse, I find I am forced to stay behind and care for him and my mother. I'm sorry I won't get to meet with everybody and learn more about my Aunt Jane. Perhaps our paths will cross in the future. In the meantime, please look out for my Aunt Dottie and Aunt Jane Cooper.
Thank you.

I always loved and admired Jane for who she was. She never allowed the depth of her intellect to get in the way of the down to earth sweetness in her interactions with those she met - even in a casual way. Dottie, may the Peasce which passes understanding be with you through this trying time.

Jane was truly a remarkable person who touched many lives! I will be forever grateful for her bravery in caring for my diabetic cat. who I have to admit, was not the best patient. Sending love and prayers to Dottie and Jane's family.

Jane was such a special, kind, loving person. The world was a better place for having her in it. All the people who had the opportunity to know her were and will forever be blessed by her. She has gone from this life but she is forever in our hearts, and love such as hers will always be a light in the Universe.

Jane was one of my favorite people, both personally and professionally. It was always a pleasure "bumping into her". She will be missed. Best to you; Dottie, family, and friends.
