Obituary of John Joseph Prokop

John Joseph Prokop, age 53, of Sylva passed away on Sunday, October 30th, after a year long battle with cancer. John was born July 2, 1963 in Chicago, Ill. He was the son of the late George T Prokop and the late Joan M Prokop. John was married to his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth Prokop. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his daughter; Megan Prokop, and his son; Benjamin Prokop, as well as his brother; George Prokop, and a sister; Rita Pritchett. John had a lifelong love of music, having an extensive collection of albums and cds. Some of his other favorite pastimes included hiking and kayaking. John served 5 years in the U S Army Reserve. He graduated from Purdue University with a Mechanical Engineering degree. John was employed at Con Met in Bryson City as a Supplier Quality Manager. As per John's wishes, he will be cremated with no services planned. Appalachian Funeral Services is serving the family of John Prokop.
