Obituary of Morris Nelson Monteith

Morris Nelson Monteith, age 78, of Sylva died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at his home. Mr. Monteith was born October 29, 1938 in Swain County, NC. He is the son of the late Eugene Monteith and the late Maylee (Oliver) Monteith. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Ann Fercken Monteith; a daughter, Karen Lynn Monteith; and three brothers, Lowell, Jack, and James Monteith. He served in the United States Army, and was employed as a log scaler for Hennessee Lumber Company and T and S Hardwoods. He loved to work, enjoyed wood carving and reading. He is survived by two sons, Andy (Sheila) Monteith, and Russell Monteith; two grandchildren, Nathan Monteith and Holly (Jedd) Griffin; three step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Rugh (Joe) Mull, Carol Swink, and Janice (Paul) Wright, al lof Sylva area; and a brother, Joel (Barbara) Monteith of Bethel, OH. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 4 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Earl Holden officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Sylva. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4 from 12:00 until 2:00 pm before the funeral. .
