Obituary of Pamela Hattie Galloway
Pamela Deitz Galloway, 68, of Cullowhee, passed away on December 3, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born January 4, 1948 to the late Medford and Hattie Harris Deitz of Sylva. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jack Galloway, her son, Greg Galloway of San Diego, CA, and her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Dicky Conley, and three granddaughters, Chandler, Ella, and Averi Conley, all of Dover, TN. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn Johnson of Sylva, and a brother, Michael Deitz of Gainesville, GA.
Pam was a 1966 graduate of Sylva-Webster High School where she excelled in sports and cheerleading, and for decades was an active supporter and substitute teacher at Camp Laboratory School and Cullowhee High School. Known for her hospitality and outgoing nature, Pam welcomed countless people into her home over the years where she loved to entertain, cook, bake, and provide wonderful meals for family and friends. She was a Girl Scout Leader locally, served on the Pisgah Girl Scout Council, and worked with many other school and community groups, including the Cane Creek Craft Club. Most of her life was spent in Jackson County except for a few years after leaving Western Carolina College to work at Southern Bell in Atlanta. It was there she met her husband and where she started her family before returning to Cullowhee to raise the children. She was a member of Scotts Creek, then Cullowhee Baptist Church.
A celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, December 17th from 4-7 p.m. at Scotts Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. Keith Parker leading a short tribute at 4:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Following, the Galloway family invites family and friends to join them for a casual remembrance in the fellowship hall with a meal provided by friends of the family.
In lieu of flowers, she requested mourners make a donation to the charity or church of the choice. Cremation services were provided by Appalachian Services.
