Ms.Jan was the best! Even if she only met you one time she could always remember your name and and something else about you. She was always very friendly and a pleasure to talk to. She made my time time in college even more enjoyable. I had been out of College for almost 15 years and bump into Ms. Jan at Walmart one day while out shopping. She walked up to to me and said "Well hello Bull! Hows the knees holding up! I had not seen Ms. Jan in years but she had remember who I was and that I had played football at WCU. I will tell you this, Ms. Jan is a special Lady and will be deeply miss by those that knew and loved her. The world will be a darker place without her smile. I was sadden to hear of her passing. I thank God that I was lucky and truly blessed to have know Ms. Jan. My prayers and condolences to the Family, Thank you for sharing Ms. Jan with us.

I send my sincere condolences to each of you, as I know Jan was a very special lady. I graduated from Western in 2002, and I will never forget how sweet and kind Jan was. I use"sharing's caring" frequently, and each time, I think of her and smile. May God bless you all, and comfort you as only He can during this difficult time.

Ms. Jan was one of the first people I met as a freshman at WCU, as was the case for many other students. I was immediately struck by her warm, inviting personality, and each time I saw her she greeted me with a smile and a kind word. Her memory was the envy of anyone, and her ability to remember the name of every student she met was impressive. Getting to know Ms. Jan and having her close was like having a grandmotherly presence on campus looking over me while living far away from home, and I will always be grateful to her for that.
Deepest condolences to Ms. Jan's family and loved ones, and to everyone at WCU and the surrounding community who knew and loved her. Ms. Jan was a treasure and truly one of a kind, and just as she never forgot my name, I will never forget hers.
Rest in peace, dear lady, and thank you for reminding us all that sharing is caring.

I had the pleasure of traveling to Europe with Ms. Jan in 2006. She was a wonderful, caring lady. She always looked for the positive in any situation. Many times on our European Vacation, Ms. Jan would say, "It's an adventure". Yes, Ms. Jan, life is an adventure. I will miss you.

Ms. Jan was a wonderful lady. I often spoke with her through my years at WCU. She will be greatly missed but look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. I know St. Peter will welcome her by his side as a greeter at the great gates and I know she'll greet everyone by name.
Thank you for everything and reminding us every day that "Sharing is Caring"

My heart felt condolences to your family. Ms. Jan instinctively knew when students were having a bad day, were stressed out, or were unhappy. She always knew exactly what to say to make someone feel cared about- to instill confidence- to encourage laughter. I and so many other students were touched and humbled by her outward love for every person she met. She was truly loved and will be deeply missed.

Ms. Jan is proof that a smile and a kind word can turn a day- or month- around. There were so many days when seeing her was the only highlight of my days. Hell, there were days when I went to the dining hall only because I knew I'd see her smiling face. I hated the food, but I went anyway.
May we always remember to pass on that smile and joy, because you never know who might need it that day.

Ms. Jan in my four years at Western never once forgot my name or anything that was going on with me. Everyday I would wait in line at the dining hall just to talk to her for a few minutes and it wasnt the same on days she wasnt there. She wasnt just another staff member or lunch lady, she went out of her way to make us her family. This loss is a tremendous one for Cat Nation which is only a fraction of the loss it is for her family. I truly wish I could hear her say "sharing is caring" one more time!!! She will be greatly missed.

Ms. Jan was one of my favorite people that I was lucky enough to meet during my time at WCU. No matter what else was going on, she always had a smile and kind word ready for every person she saw. This world has lost a true gem. Rest well Ms. Jan, your motto, "sharing is caring" and your wonderful smile and personality will live on in the hearts of generations of Catamounts.

A truly wonderful human we have lost. I will always remember Jan. I started at WCU in 2001. We all got to experience the warmth she had to offer. It is unfortunate the student population which needs this type of warmth so much these days won't get to experience what I got to. To her entire family... you have an awful lot to be proud of in Jan. She was a real special lady and I hope that her way of thinking is firmly ingrained into you. God Bless.

I will always remember Ms.Jan's smile as I came up the stairs for breakfast or lunch at WCU. She could always tell if I was stressing out or not..... and she didn't even have to ask. She would always tell me it would be ok, and it would work out. The Dining Hall will never seem the same, but Heaven has it's Angel back. I think she will be watching over all of us until we all meet again.
