Obituary of Opal Lee Bryson

Opal Lee Bryson, age 79,Tuckasegee, passed away December 29, 2016 at Memorial Mission in Asheville. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was born March 10, 1937. She is the daughter of the late Elihue Mills and the late Lemer McFalls Mills. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by three brothers, Tommy, Roy and Manual Mills. Opal is survived by her husband of 52 years, Douglas Forrest Bryson; children Kenneth (Beverly) Bryson, Patricia (Ethan) Norton, David Bryson, Michael Bryson and Christopher (April) Bryson; grandchildren, Steven Bryson, James Logan, Derek Norton, Justin Bryson, Patrick Norton, Leann Bryson, Ashley Barker, Joseph Bryson, Cheyenne Bryson; and Minnie Bryson;; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Hoxit, Helen Snyder, and Diann Shook. Opal loved gardening, canning, her flower garden, and her family. She was a member of the Moses Creek Baptist Church. A funeral will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 11:00am, Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev. Jim Ed Powell will officiate; burial will follow at the Hooper Cemetery on Caney Fork Road, Cullowhee. The family will receive friends at Appalachian on Tuesday, January 3, from 6 until 8 pm.
