Obituary of Harold Dean Buchanan

Harold Dean Buchanan, 73, of Sylva, went home to be with his Lord Friday morning January 6, 2017. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County he was the son of the late Gudger and Viola Buchanan. Harold Dean worked as a Supervisor for NCDOT and retired after 28 years. A mechanic by trade he loved working with his hands. He also enjoyed gardening and wood working. He loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren and will be remembered for his gentleness, kindness and his love of Christ. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by 2 brothers Vernon and Carol Buchanan and a baby sister Martha Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 55 years; Nellie Shuler Buchanan 1 Son- Darrell Buchanan (Teresa) of Sylva 1 Daughter- Sandy Robinson (Lee) of Sylva 2 Granddaughters- Jessica Lynn Morgan and Jennifer Lee Davidson (Todd) Step Granddaughter- Crystal Conley Step Great Grandchildren- Brooke, Evelyn, Caden 3 Brothers- Gordon Buchanan of Whittier, Ronald and Lowell Buchanan both of Sylva 4 Sisters- Barbara Cabe, Stella Wike, Wanda Brooks and Audrey Jones all of Sylva Funeral Services will be held 2:30 pm Sunday January 8, 2017 at New Hope Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 prior to the Service at the Church.
