Obituary of Charles Edgar Cabe

Charles Edgar (Cotton) Cabe, 82, of the Savannah community passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, in the VA hospital, Asheville, NC after an extended illness. He was born August 10, 1934 the son of the late James Edgar and Alberta Rhinehart Cabe. He was also preceded in death by a sister Jean Turpin Daughenbaugh and a brother Thomas Glen Cabe and a great nephew Joshua Turpin. He was an Army veteran, serving in Korea. He worked with his Dad in saw milling, logging and pulp wood for many years, before moving to Darrington, WA, where he was a timber cutter for more than twenty years. He began working in Darrington for Summit Timber Co. and retired from Meese Timber Co. and moved back to Jackson County. Cotton became a Christian late in life, but was very specific about his faith in the Lord. Cotton is survived by three sisters, Brittie Duncan, Spruce Pine, NC, Ann Ferguson, Charlotte, NC, Shirley Maxwell Spence (O.K.), Matthews, NC. He is also survived by his nephews, Eddie Duncan, Keith Turpin, Tommy Cabe, Mark Turpin, and David Maxwell and his nieces Cindy Cabe Martin and Jennifer Ferguson Medlin. Survivors also include several great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the love of his life and best friend, Ruby Allison, and by Doug Lenker, of Darrington, WA, whom he loved as a son. Cotton had many lifelong friends both in Jackson County and Darrington, WA. Visitation will be Saturday, February 11, 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service, at 2 p.m. at Appalachian Funeral Home, with the Rev. Avery Brown officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery.
