Obituary of James Clifton Rogers

James Clifton "Lightning" Rogers, 73, of Sylva passed away on Friday, February 10th at his residence. He was the son of the late James Lemuel Rogers and the late Ada Mae Morgan Rogers. He was a retired truck driver for Jackson Paper. He also drove for several other companies over a 35 year span as a driver. He was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. He loved his family and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as camping and riding his ATV. He enjoyed playing the guitar and mandolin both individually and as a member of "The Covenants." In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Rev Troy Rogers and Mae Nicholson Rogers. He is survived by one daughter; Ginger (Scott) Farmer, and two grandsons; Dylan Farmer and Dallas Farmer, all of Sylva. He is also survived by three sisters; Linda Rogers, Judy Rogers, and Donna Dills, as well as one nephew and three nieces. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 14th at 2:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev Carl Adams and Rev. Jim Ed Powell officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 13th from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Laurel Branch Baptist Church, 219 Laurel Branch Rd, Sylva, NC 28779. Appalachian Funerals Services and Crematorium is serving the family.
