Obituary of Brainard Lyle Cummins, Jr.

Brainard Lyle Cummins, Jr. (Butch), 69, of Sylva, NC passed away on March 17, 2017 after a period of declining health. He was born in Columbus Indiana on December 6, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brainard and Aleen Cummins of Columbus, IN. Mr. Cummins graduated high school from Howe Military School in Howe, IN. He graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Business Administration, and was a corporate accountant for many years. He also served in the United States Army, Special Forces (Green Berets) during the Vietnam War Era. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nell (Tatham) Cummins; two sons, David of the home, and Brian of Jonesboro, Arkansas- also two grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Riley and Allison Cummins both of Arkansas. Brainard is also survived by two sisters, Liz (Jere) Redmon of Selmer, TN and Margaret (Larry) Wright of Campbellsville, KY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 12pm-2pm, with a funeral service at 2pm in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Jeff Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Old Savannah Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the caring doctors, nurses, and CNA’s in the ICU at Harris Regional Hospital for their excellent care. Appalachian Funeral Services has been entrusted with the Arrangements.
