Obituary of Martha Jane Davis

Martha Davis age 65 of Cullowhee, NC passed unexpectedly away Monday, May 1, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Ben Lee and Helen (Mashburn) Davis. She graduated Cullowhee High School in 1969. She was employed by the phone company for 42 years and retired in July 2016. Since her retirement Martha enjoyed volunteering her time at the Harris Region Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She is survived by her beloved grandson Sam Mathis; her daughter Laura Davis and fiancé Mark Apel of Sylva, NC; special niece Susan Fortner and nephew Tommy Davis both of Cullowhee, NC; one sister in law Nancy Davis of Crawfordville, FL. Several other nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by one sister Bobbie Jones and her beloved brother Eddie Davis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. The family will receive friends from Friday night May 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Great Smokies Health Foundation, PO 176 Sylva, NC 28779 or to Fall Cliff Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Joyce Crowder, 3445 Cullowhee Mountain Rd. Cullowhee, NC 28723. Appalachian Funeral Services are handling arrangements.
