Obituary of Harry Lester Owen

Lester Owen, 90, of the Qualla Community, passed away Monday May 15, 2017. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Frank and Annie Howell Owen. He was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church. He worked for Kirk- Davis Chevrolet as a mechanic after graduating high school and before entering the U.S.Army. After his discharge from the Military he worked for Clement Bros. Construction and then retired after 35 years as a rural mail carrier for the USPS in Whittier. What he loved the most though was farming. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel Clement Owen and by his brother Lloyd Owen. He is survived by; Daughter- Margaret Owen Cogdill of Webster Son- Kenneth Buddy Owen (Susan) of Dillsboro Granddaughter- Amanda Owen Houston (Mike) of Harrisonburg, VA 2 Great Grandsons- Owen and Reid Houston Brother- Robert Owen (Polly) of Whittier Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday May 17 at Olivet United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Ferree officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 pm prior to the Service at the Church. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery. . .
