Obituary of Glenn Martin Mathis

. Glenn Martin Mathis, age 75, of Balsam died Friday, June 2, 2017 at Mission Hospital-Memorial Campus of Asheville, NC. Mr. Mathis was born May 8, 1942 in Sylva, NC. He is the son of the late Adam and the late Jessie (Miller) Mathis. In addition to his parents Glenn is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jimmy Cogdill, Harold and Noel Mathis; and a sister, Shirley Beasley. He retired from Dayco, in Waynesville, where he had worked for 31 years. He enjoyed fishing, bear hunting, and wrestling. He is survived by his wife of 56 years,: Dorothy (Stewart) Mathis; a son, Martin (Kimberly) Mathis; a daughter, Tammy (Kenneth) Smith, 6 grandchildren, Scott Smith and fiancée Whitney Hughes, Ben Smith, Kassidy Mathis and fiancée Ben Lovedahl, Maleah Mathis, Kyle Mathis and Makellyn Mathis; and one great grandson, Camden Hughes. The funeral will be held 3:00 pm on Monday, June 5 at Appalachian Funeral Service, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC with Rev. Lloyd Fish officiating. Burial will follow in Addie Cemetery, Sylva. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Appalachian.
