Obituary of Neal Kyle Crisp

Neal Kyle Crisp, 75 died Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his home in Bryson City following his battle with cancer. With his wife Teresa near and his daughter Bobbie by his side, he peacefully passed.

Neal was born in Fernandina Beach, FL on March 14, 1942 to Ollie Mae (Cochran) and John Kyle Crisp. He grew up in Yulee, FL along with his five brothers and one sister. Neal joined the Air Force after high school and served his country for 4 years. While in the Air Force he realized the main difference between him and his 1st Lieutenant was a piece of paper called a college degree, and so he went on to attend Florida State University where he graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. This led him to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in Asheville, NC. He fought crime for the next 25 years in North Carolina, Texas, and Florida. Neal loved his years as an agent and did it well, winning many awards and recognized often for his interviewing skills. Many a story he would share about these years regaling his enthralled listeners with funny and exciting tales of characters and criminals.

Retiring early, he moved to Bryson City, NC where he grew his hobby of building. He was self-taught and with the help of Time Life Books he built, completely and partially, 14 homes in the Bryson City area. Many times you would find him sitting outside, beer in hand, “ciphering” on details of the current project or his next grand idea. Constantly creative, he was innovative with materials and created one of a kind houses.

Neal was known and loved for his big heart, generosity, storytelling, and easy going manner. Always accompanied by his dogs, he never met a stranger and within minutes they fell for his charm. He left people with smiles on their faces and laughter in their hearts. His colorful and entertaining personality accompanied with his kindness will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.

He leaves behind wife, Teresa Lambert Crisp; daughters, Bobbi Rapp and husband Bryan, Erika Smith and husband Craig; Granddaughter, Stella Rapp; Grandson, Seth Smith; Brothers Edwin Crisp (Angela), Ralph Crisp (Pearl); Sister, Betty Jo Holland (Burnell) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his brothers Dewey Crisp, Dwayne Crisp and Thad “Sonny” Crisp.

A small, private family graveside service will be held at Cochran Cemetery where he will be buried next to his mother, Ollie Mae. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2017.

In remembrance of Neal he asked that you listen to Micky Newberry, his favorite singer. In lieu of flowers you may donate to P.A.W.S. Animal Shelter in Bryson City. http://www.pawsbrysoncity.org/
