Obituary of Vernell Carter

Vernell Jones Carter, 83, of Whittier, NC passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017. Born in Jackson County she is the daughter of the late Homer Jones and Louise Wikle McMahan. She was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Daniel Carter, who passed away in 2000.

She is survived by six children, Ella Mae Rowland, William Carter, Albert Carter and his wife Jean, Betty Jean Carter, James Elbert Carter and Rachel Lee Carter; five brothers, Billy Joe Davis , Huey Lee McMahan, Douglas McMahan, Jerry McMahan and Dickie McMahan; one sister Rosa Bowers. Six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

She is preceded in death by three brothers Danny, Olin, Reggie McMahan; one sister Maggie McMahan and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Bo Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Barkers Creek Cemetery.
