Mr. Mitchell spoke at Freshman Orientation in 1959, Several other people spoke to our class, but the only thing I remember from that event was the joke he told, and how that joke made me feel more welcome and less a stranger.

My favorite memory of your dad was the game dinners at Chancellor Robinson's home to celebrate the end of a productive season. Those on the hunts regaled us with stories of their adventures, but Stedman's stories were the best! They were hilarious and had us all laughing, a really fun evening. Bob and I send our condolences tof the family of a man who was a good friend and for whom we had great respect. We know you will miss him and we will, too.

A truly wonderful man who lived a good long life. My childhood memories of Mr. Mitchell are, always a big smile on his face and a box of Cracker Jacks in each hand, one for me and one for my older Sister. We lived on Cullowhee Mountain, just a few miles from Mr. Mitchell's mountain cabin. We always loved to see that Jeep coming up the road, he never forgot us girls, he stopped by each time he was on the mountain, to say hello and to give us our sweet snacks. Mr. Mitchell will be missed but the fond memories will live on.

I considered Stedman as a close friend and I will miss his stories, sense of humor, and acts of kindness. He was a role model to many and had a significant positive impact on the Cullowhee community. I was fortunate to be a participant in the "bridge club" and will remember fondly the good times we had, especially the visits to the cabin. Kathy and I extend condolences to the entire family and we will keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers. Stedman was a good man!

My condolences to the family and many close friends of this wonderful man. My sister and I grew up on Cullowhee mountain very close to the cabin and trout ponds that he had on his property. I will forever remember "Mr. Mitchell" (and his dog, Blue) as one of the most giving, friendly person that I have known. I did have the pleasure of visiting him at his home in Cullowhee at WCU just a few months after he turned 100 and found him to be just as sharp as ever. God has gained an angel and he will forever be in my heart.
