Obituary of Katherine Louise Roberts

Katherine Grant Roberts, born Katherine Louise Grant, came into the world on November 21, 1949 in Cashiers, NC, weighing 6 lbs and 15 oz. She left the world on July 29, 2017 in Highlands, NC weighing none of your business. The time in between was spent appreciating the finer things in life, such as eating Little Debbie cakes, watching The Big Bang Theory and Everybody Loves Raymond, reading the novels of Stephen King and Terry Pratchett, and collecting true crime and ghost stories. She also loved a good yard sale. She loved her family very much. She is survived by her mother, Tina Elizabeth, her brother Eddie and her sister Sandra, her daughters Elizabeth Roberts and Michelle Reed, and three grandchildren.

Before illness slowly took her mind and faculties, she enjoyed caring for children, anybody’s. In the early 1990s she volunteered at Paw Creek Elementary School in the Flashlight Readers Program, helping children who had difficulty with reading comprehension with patience and kindness. To neighborhood children she was a second mother, and her house a second home.

A graduate of Glenville High School in Jackson County, NC, Kathy (or “Kat”) Grant was, in her younger years, the life of the party. Her beauty was legendary and her smile lit up any room she entered.

Memorial Services will be held for friends and family on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Dr, Sylva, NC 28779 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please call your mother.
