Obituary of Martha Marie Crisp

Martha Marie Crisp, 93, of Jackson County's Savannah community died Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Harris Regional Hospital under Hospice care after a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Wesleyanna Methodist Church, was retired from the Jackson County School System as a food service employee and was especially known for her bread and pastries. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. The daughter of the late John C. and Florence Wilde Buchanan, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Crisp, who died in 1991; a son, James "Critter" Crisp; a brother, Robert Guy Buchanan; and sisters, Hannah Isabelle Cabe and Ethel Lee Morgan. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Erma Jean and Orville Haskett of Lewisville; daughter-in-law, Tamera Crisp of Tuckasegee; sister, Jonnie Hall of Canton; four grandchildren, Mark Haskett, Mary Ann Haskett, Melissa Crisp and Jennifer Rudisill; four great-grandchildren, Brittany Haskett, Emily Bingham and Alyson and Bryce Rudisill; and special friend and caregiver Jean Sutton. The funeral service will be held at Wesleyanna Methodist Church at noon Saturday, Aug. 19, with the Rev. Dan Stiles officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. until noon. Burial will be in the New Savannah Baptist Church cemetery. Appalachian Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
