Obituary of Newton Lumus Metz

Newton Lumus Metz was born in Miami Fl on October 15, 1937 of Helen Jeanette Lumus Metz and James Walter Metz Sr. He was the last grandchild of J.N. Lumus, the first mayor of Miami Beach and great nephew to James Edgar Lumus, the second Mayor of the City of Miami. He attended Miami-Jackson High School Graduating in 1956. He became a wholesale and retail grocer for nearly 50 years working for Tanners then Be-Thrifty and finally with Grand Union Supermarkets.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 32 years; one son Norman Lane Metz of Palm Beach, Fl. He also leaves one brother Walter Metz; six nephews and nieces; 12 great nephews and nieces.

A private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Appalachian Funeral Services are handling arrangements for the family.
