Obituary of Ralph Edward Garland

Ralph Edward Garland 88, of Sylva passed away on Wednesday October 4th, 2017. He was the devoted husband of the late Betty Ann Ward Garland and was the son of the late Edgar and Cora Garland. He served honorably in the US Army and retired from the Cullowhee Post Office. He was an avid gardener and loved to square dance. In addition to his parents Ralph was preceded in death by Betty Ann, his wife of sixty-two years; one son, Michael Edward Garland; one brother, Joe Garland; three brothers-in-law, Ben, Doyle and Curley Ward; and one sister-in-law, Peggy Robinson. Mr. Garland is survived by five sisters-in-law; Mary Garland of Waynesville, Cheeara (Paul) Nations of Greenville, SC, Darlene (Ray) Bradley of Cherokee, Mackie Wood of Whittier, and Vickie Williams of Cherokee; one brother-in-law, Jack Robinson of Asheville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and by one special great nephew, Gage. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 7th at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Jared Stephens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens. .
