Obituary of Minnie Frances Casey
Minnie Frances Worley Casey went to be with the Lord on Friday, October20, 2017. She was born In Sylva, North Carolina on September 22, 1926 to the late Mary W. Bryson. Her father was the late Jess Howell of Sylva. Minnie Casey was educated at the Colored Consolidated School of Jackson County. After graduation she worked five years at C. J. Harris Hospital in food services. At this time she traveled to Lima, OH to marry her high school sweetheart, Lyndon Kermit Casey, a self-employed brick mason. His employment allowed them to travel throughout Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia until they settled in Sylva, NC.
As a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church her love for the Lord was evident in her service as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Gospel Chorus, treasurer, YWA member and teacher, and church programs chairperson. At the time of her death she was the Sunday School superintendent, the deaconess, and a member of the missionary circle and Tuesday at Noon Bible Study. As a beloved member of the community she was a member of the Jackson County NAACP and the Chaplaincy Board of Harris Regional Hospital.
She retired from Western Carolina University after 25 years of service as a housekeeper. Minnie will be remembered for her cardinal collection and passion for WCU basketball and football games. Her love of family was evident in her attendance at 43 of the 45 Casey family reunions. The first reunion was at her home in 1970. She attended the most recent last July in Greensboro, NC.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lyndon Casey; two sisters: Betty Jo Worley and Isabel Howell; and three brothers: Ray Worley, Jim Worley, and Jess Howell, Jr.
She is survived by a son, Lyndon Kermit Casey, Jr. of Arden, NC; two daughters, Mary Sue Casey of the home, and Audrey Casey of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Dorothy Mae Worley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 24th at 1:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 23rd from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Services.
