Obituary of Clara Bow Melton

Clara Melton, age 88, of Sylva, passed away on Monday October 30th, at The Homestead at Haywood Regional of Clyde, NC. Ms. Melton was born December 25, 1929 in Jackson County. She is the daughter of the late Obert and Gertrude Lewis Ashe. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Woodford Melton; one son, Kenneth Darrell Melton; an infant daughter, Wanda Sue Melton; one sister, Catherine Ashe and one brother, James Ashe. Clara loved reading, her family, fishing, cooking, gardening, crafts, and Lovedale Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Linda Melton Jamison; one son, Jerry (Elaine) Melton; one grandson, Kevin (Charity) Jamison; one granddaughter, Kimberly Jamison; one sister, Nancy (Warren) Buchanan, one brother, Lee Ashe, one sister, Carolyn McMahan; and a dear friend, Lydia Mathis. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as her Lovedale Church family. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday November 1st at 2:00 p.m. at Lovedale Baptist Church with the Rev. J.D. Grant and the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
