Ed was a good friend and Kappa Tau Lambda fraternity brother at Seton Hall University. We were never in touch since our 1965 graduation and I just learned of his passing. I got the idea tonight out of the blue to look him up on Facebook and then, when that failed, do an internet search. He was a great man and I wish I had been in his life these last 45 years.
My sympathies to his wife and family.

Ed, Annette, Currin Cooley and I all worked together in Recreation at WCU back in the late 1980's and early 1990's at WCU. We taught many of the same students. Our children attended school together. We had a mutual relationship of respect and kindness. So sorry to hear about his early departure from this great earth. R.I.P. Ed. He was a good professor at WCU and friend to the students.

Dr. Kesgen was my professor in the Recreational Therapy program at WCU (class of '96). What an awesome person to have crossed paths with not so long ago! I frequently mention him as I pass the torch of knowledge to students, friends, family, and peers! Some journeys in my life would not have even been taken had it not of been for his wise teachings. What an honor to have known such an amazing person. Annette, may you continue his legacy in all that you do!

Ed and I served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA-31. Although our paths never crossed aboard the ship we were still shipmates. We met only a few years ago and corresponded on a fairly regular basis and I had the privilege of getting to know him. He was planning to come to our reunion in September and entertain us with one of is delightful speeches that inspire us all. We will miss him tremendously at our reunions.
Fair winds and following seas and long may your big jib draw!

I have so many memories of my friend Ed Kesgen. Great book with many life lessons. Lover of life (friends, children, Annette and all family). Always was organizing a run or some fun thing at conferences. I attended his sessions at professional converences. I told Ed this was time to do something for me (his sessions were always uplifting, relaxing, and just what I needed). I wish I could think of an Aggie joke to share at this moment. I'll miss you my friend. Jim B

I was so shocked and sad to hear the news. Ed was my professor and adviser in the Recreational Therapy Dept. at WCU. I cannot express how much he taught his students about RT, life, and themselves. He gave so much to our profession and was such a dynamic speaker. I have never encountered anyone else with his talent and uniqueness. I will be thinking and praying for Annette, his family and friends during this challenging time.

Whenever I think of Ed,I remember this journal entry, Henry David Thoreau wrote: "As a child looks foward to the coming of summer,so could we contemplate with quiet joy the circle of seasons, returning without fail eternally". Reading Ed's treasured words,I believe in the seasons and all of their gifts.
I last saw Ed at our final CYO basketball game back in 1962. We became reaquainted after our 50th High School Reunion(I did not go)but responded to his words of simplicity and innocence. Here began a year of enlightenment---reading his book, "To Carly With Love, From Grandad", his insightful blogs, and the personal e- mails we exchanged---I could not help, but trust and savor all of those learning experiences, which were his creed.
My wife Dorothy and I offer our heartfelt sympathy, along with all of our thoughts and prayers to Annette and the family. Whenever I hold that compass in my hand, it will take me back to Ed's sublime and pleasing thoughts, those inspirational words stand forever as his monuments.

Dr Kesgen encouraged me to major in Recreation Therapy at WCU....it set my career course. At that time our classes were small and he taught most of the RT coursework himself. Not only did I received excellent instruction re: how to be a therapist - I also learned a great deal about myself. I find myself passing such insights on to patients, collegues and interns even now. When I do - I think of him.....and smile.

Although I had never been to any of our class reunions, my return to our 50th reunion was the first time I had reconnected with the Class of '61 since that time so long ago. Both my husband Mort and I were moved by the life events that brought us together and the strength of each classmate's identity. What I later shared in writing to Ed was a life-affirming moment in time when past and present melted into a comforting shared destiny.
Through time's then and now, Ed stood out--for his accomplishments, his character and his embrace of life. Ed's appreciation of the world in all of its dimensions, his laughter at the absurd, his profound reverance for all that really matters and his limitless zest for life--this was his legacy and our treasure.I can only be grateful that I was able to share, however briefly, in the wonder of Ed's universe.
Both Mort and I extend to Annette and Ed's family our deepest sympathy.

I lived directly across the street from Ed in East Rutherford N.J. We were childhood friends and attended high school together. I pinned Ed when he joined his fraturnity at Secton Hall University. All through our early years, Ed was my mentor...even then...Ed was wise beyond his years.
We had lost touch with each other....but had connected again about a year ago. We emailed each other...spoke on the phone...and Ed became my mentor again. I will really miss him....but I know....he will always be with us, and someday... we will meet again. He is an Angel walking among us....Soar High Ed!!!!

I grew up in East Rutherford, NJ and was fortunate to have Ed Kesgen as a classmate and best friend during 7th through 12 grades. Along with our wives, we reunited at the ERHS '61 50th Reunion held in ER Oct 2010 and have remained close since. Kathy especially bonded with Ed during the 3 day reunion and is a true follower of Ed's philosophy on human and spiritual life (Kathy and Ed are pictured in the High School Reunion musing in his Mountain Cabin Musings book). We both miss Ed very much and thank God we had the opportunity to know him and benefit from his wisdom.
