Obituary of Wayne "Dooner" Stephens

Wayne “Dooner” Stephens, 81, of Cullowhee died Friday, November 24, 2017 at home.  Mr. Stephens was born March 4, 1936 in Cullowhee, NC. He is the son of the late Spurgeon and the late Beulah (Crawford) Stephens.

Dooner loved watching sports spending time with his family, and he was an avid Tarheel basketball fan.

He graduated from Cullowhee High School in 1956, and retired from WCU housekeeping.

He is survived by 4 siblings: Mary Sue Thompson of Waynesville; James W. “Poss” (Marilyn) Stephens of Waynesville;   Doris Eloise Stephens of Cullowhee, and Jerry D. (Velma) Stephens of Charlotte.  Multiple nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Dooner is preceded in death by 4 siblings: Harold Stephens, Evelyn Hamilton, Jean Lindsay, and Lester Stephens.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 27th, 2017 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm- 2pm at the funeral home.
