One of my favorite pics of Joe. Been on our fridge for several years. He told me that he was concealing a pistol behind his glove. He taught me a lot about guns and gun safety. RIP Joe

Joe’s passing has touched each one of us at our office. I have been in practice for 30+ years, and known Joe for the majority of that time. We all are going to miss him. Never did we see him that he didn’t make all of us laugh. We loved the way he shot straight from the hip and never candy coated anything.
When we moved into our new office a few years ago Joe stopped by one day. Well, he walks in the door and yelled from the front lobby, “Doc! That shit on that front doors gonna have to go. Now I ain’t gonna put up with that crap. Now you go get a scrapper and get to taken it off and if you don’t I will ya hear!” We CRYED we were laughing so hard!!!!!! Apparently we had overlooked that there was a “No Firearms” sticker left on the door from the previous tenants who had leased the building (it was a Medwest Dr office before us). No one had even noticed not paid attention! But by gosh Joe did! Off to Lowes and employee trotted to get GooOff and some scrappers. Because if Joe wanted it, Joe got it! We loved him dearly. We talked about him at our meeting this week. He will be missed for sure. God bless you his family and friends for we know there will be a great void in your life. And if you ever need anything, call Doc...we’ll take care of you.

I worked with John at American Enka and we became lifelong friends❤️ I loved him dearly and will miss the 8pm phone calls we would get about every month. He could make me laugh when no one else could....oh so funny and so many memories! RIP my dear friend! Me and Pug will miss you❤️
To his children: I loved the obituary! It was a perfect description of our friend! He loved you all and was a proud father!
Much love to you all,
Nola and Pug

My deepest heart felt condolences to the entire family. Rather than just give my sympathy,I want to thank John's family and John (Joe as he liked for me call him) himself. Joe you gave me so much the last few months and years. All though it started out as a friend who checked in on his more elder friend, you made each visit more about how I was doing. I learned by your example the true meaning and value of a true friend. You made me laugh. You made me cry and on one or two occasions you irritated the devil out of me. Yet through it all you showed me love and respect. You taught me love and respect by the way you loved each and all your children. You schooled me on that it is never to late make amends with anyone one may have offended. Joe you showed me the perfect path to take by being a what you see is what you get man. I will miss you and all of these gifts you have bestowed upon me. Most of all I will miss our kitchen table talks giving the world a steady dose of a hard time as we sat just you and I. Rest my dear friend!

We will be praying for the entire Thompson family. Joe has a super special place in our hearts and he is going to be missed in our household. I still have a "welcome home" log that I made out of a tree we cut down in his backyard. We know that our two dogs are being taken care of up in heaven because he loved them dearly. Roscoe and Banjo would run up to his house every time we let them out just to see "Uncle Joe". -with love Mike and Lisa Scully
