Joe was a great teammate in the Army Secretariat. I was new to installations and facilities work and Joe was a great source of knowledge and support. Joe made the Army a better place.

I'm deeply saddened to learn today of Joe's passing in December. We met in 2011, and supported each other through some difficult times. Joe was a spirited, compassionate person and a great friend, through good times and bad. I will miss him tremendously. `Rest in peace, Joe!

It is with very great sadness that I learned of the passing of Joe. He is sorely missed. My memories of him are of a man who always tried to do the very best he could - and he drove those around him to excel. He was quick witted and lots of fun - and he demanded the best from all around him. His desire for accuracy and accountability was a breath of fresh air.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I'm very sorry to hear about Joe Whitaker passing away. I worked with him when he was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Housing. I also kept in touch with him over the years at conferences and through some of the clients he had. I was always impressed with the intense loyalty and affection that Joe inspired in the people that worked for him. Many years later, people who had worked for him still spoke of him so highly. That's the mark of good character in my book.

You could not find a better person that was more dedicated to our Soldier. We did not always get along. But Joe was fair with his decisions. R.I.P. old Friend, you will be missed.

Joe thoughtfully resembled the brilliance, integrity and service vitality of the Army Engineer community as I had the privilege to experience during his way too short time with us. Always looked forward to his visits to Europe "back in those days". Rest peacefully in a job well done.

Joe was my last supervisor before I retired. I was his secretary. I just wanted to let Susan know how much he adored you and how proud he was of his grandsons. He would glow when he talked about you. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am deeply saddened at the passing of Joe Whitaker. I knew him from our golfing time in the Oak Marr Senior League. Joe was always a pleasure to talk with and play with. He was a gentleman who never lost it when his shot went wrong and who never hesitated to praise a good shot of someone he was playing with. I remember him with an eternal smile, enjoying the day with his fellow golfers. We in the Senior League will miss him terribly but are glad that he won third place in our tournament and was able to go out a winner!
