I grew up knowing Lloyd. He and my dad ( Vernie Owens) were always planning hunting trips. We all loved hearing them tell bear stories. I know we'll meet Lloyd again. Until then our Prayers are with you all.

The best memories I have of Lloyd is; when Andy and I would go camping at Standing Indian, and he would come over, and would bring enough potatoes, eggs, ramps, bacon, cornmeal and milk to feed an army, cook all this up and expect Andy and I to help him eat all of it.
We would sit around the campfire and listen to his stories of years ago, they were so interesting and entertaining, Oh how I miss those days. Lloyd Rest In Peace - Family he lived a full life.

I wanted to express my condolences to the family. Good memories and sweet stories are to b e cherished.
So happy I had the opportunity to visit Lloyd in the rest home last year. My brother, Russell Brown, and sister-in-law, Martha, drove "up the mountain" so I could visit Lloyd and tell him how much I appreciated the stories, songs, jeep trips up the mountain, and all the fun times with his family. Some of my fondest memories as a child centered around our trips to Sylvia to visit family. It was important to tell Lloyd that he was always very kind to us as children. He was never in a hurry and always took time to listen. I was surprised when he took my hand and remembered me when I told him who I was. It was so good to see him.

I was so saddened to hear this news. Sylva will not be the same without Mr. Lloyd. I have sweet memories from my childhood of going into Belk department store where he was always such a friendly, welcoming presence. My heart goes out to the family in the loss of this sweet man. I am especially thinking of you, Sharon.

Thoughts and prayers with all of you in the loss of Lloyd! He was a beloved man by all who knew him and left a giant legacy of stories and friendship. Not many can say they lived a full life that was enjoyed as much as his. He truly was a mountain man in the best sense of it.

Appreciated all of cousin Lloyd's stories, collections of family histories, and proud to be on his "letters about mountain life" list. He was a great conversationalist, whether you were a stranger, family or friend. You knew him better each time you parted ways. I have fond memories of him, and the life shared with others, many times at the old someplace at the head of East Fork. May his family be blessed by the joy of his life shared with others, and that he has now completed this journey on earth to celebrate an eternal heavenly reunion! He did love reunions!

Mr. LLoyd Wilkes Cowan was such a familiar person in Sylva and Jackson County for many, many years. My very first memories of him was when he was playing in the old Sylva Basketball League after World War II.
I went by to visit with Mr. Cowan in the nursing home on Christmas Day 2017 but he was sleeping. I just left a note in his room telling him that I had been there.
Mr. LLoyd Wilkes Cowan will always be remembered as a very fine Christian in his church and community. His family and many friends will certainly miss him.
