Obituary of Clara Louise Stern

Clara Louise Stern, age 88, of Sylva died Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Mission Hospital of Asheville, NC. Mrs. Stern was born May 28, 1929 in Sylva, NC. She is the daughter of the late General and the late Eva Cordelia (Estes) Sutton. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Christen Clark, a brother, Clifton Sutton, and two sisters, Thelma Sutton Roberts and Jean Bertoni. . She graduated Webster High School and Draughton's Junior College in Knoxville, TN. She was a retired Federal and State of NC employee, She was a member of Old Savannah Baptist Church and choir since 1943. She was a former member of the Pilot Club of America in Asheville, NC and a former member of DAR of Gaithersburg, MD, and former church clerk and officer of Singles Ministry, Montrose Baptist Church, Rockville, MD. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Stern Clark; a sister, Ruth A. Lightner of Ocala, FL; and brothers, James Sutton of Boiling Springs, SC and Anderson Sutton of Sylva, NC. . The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 3 at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, NC. Burial will follow in Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylva. The family will receive friends before the funeral at Appalachian Funeral Services from 1:30 until 2:00 pm.
