Obituary of William Wesley Mathis

William Wesley Mathis, 87, of Sylva, passed away Monday February 12, 2018. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Rufus and Fannie Mae Mathis. He enjoyed working in the yard, gardening or watching Nascar. He was a member of Balsam Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by 15 of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by; 2 Daughters- Mary Ann McClure (Mark) of Waynesville Cindy Mathis of Sylva 1 Son- Carroll Mathis of Sylva 1 Grandson- Logan McClure (Michelle) 4 Great Grandchildren- Jacob, Joel, Joshua and Abigail McClure 2 Sisters- Audrey Mull of Sylva, Rosette Harris of Lexington, NC 1 Brother- Ted Mathis of Sylva Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Funeral Services will be held 12:00 pm Friday February 16 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Revs. Earl Holden and Marvin Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 pm prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carson Cemetery. .
