Obituary of Hugh Emmette Wallace

MR. HUGH EMMETTE WALLACE On Friday, March 16, 2018 prominent Anson County businessman Hugh Emmette Wallace, age 83 went to be with his Lord. Mr Wallace was born March 16, 1935 in Nash County NC to the late James Jefferson Wallace and Hettie Belle Joyner Wallace. He lost both his parents as a young boy and was raised by his mother's sister, Pattie and her husband Paul Langley of Rocky Mount, NC. Hugh is survived by his wife of 56 years, JoAnne Bradley Wallace of Wadesboro, NC, two sons, Steve Hugh Wallace and wife Mary, and Kirk David Wallace and wife Kristie both of Norwood, NC and five cherished grandchildren, Mary Catherine Chase Wallace, Stephen Hugh Wallace, Jr., Anna Christine Wallace, Abbey Caroline Wallace, and John David Wallace. He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Joe Wallace of Rocky Mount and is survived by his sister, Myrtle Talton of Raleigh, NC and brother Vernon Wallace of Rocky Mount, NC. His adopted family of Alta and Daxie Dozier, Luanne Langley Jones (Marshall), Marshall Langley (Bette), Wayon Langley (Carolyn) and Donnie Langley will forever be cherished. Mr. Wallace graduated from Coopers High School, Nash County NC where he played baseball and was voted most likely to succeed among other honors and afterwards served honorably in the United States Army stationed in Germany 1954-1956. In 1960 he graduated with honors from Wake Forest University in business administration Hugh Wallace and accounting and began his business career with Springs Industries in Lancaster, SC. as an accountant and later operated their Kanawha Insurance division. In 1969 he moved his family to Wadesboro NC as an executive with West Knitting Mills. During his business career Mr. Wallace founded many businesses; Carolina Options Inc., Unity Knitting Mills, Inc., Anson Apparel Company Inc., Stanly Apparel, Spuntex Knitting, and Kingstree Knitting and Meadowview Terrace. He served on the board of directors for Uwharrie Capital Corp. and truly enjoyed the fellowship of its employees. As a longtime member of the Wadesboro Rotary Club, he served as the club's president and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow. His many interests included the Boy Scouts, Anson United Way, and serving on the Anson County Economic Development Corporation. Mr Wallace loved his family as well as his fellow man. Many acts of kindness were just his way and was a testament to his faith and love of God. Having served as a church elder and Sunday school teacher, the First Presbyterian Church of Wadesboro was a joy of his faith for over 49 years. He was a mentor to many and will be missed by his family and community. A special thanks to Leslie Lett, Paula Shaw and Teresa Jones for the loving care they provided and especially to his neighbor Brenda McCormick and her son Dwight and wife Linda. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, March 19, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, Wadesboro with Mr. Ken Goins, CLP, officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday at other times at the home. There will also be a visitation Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at Appalachian Funeral Services, 165 Skyland Dr. Sylva, North Carolina followed by a graveside service at 3:30pm in the Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery, also in Sylva. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 351, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or to Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Sylva, NC.
