Obituary of Essie Woodard

Mrs. Essie Fox Woodard, age 88, of Sylva passed away Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at Skyland Care Center of Sylva, NC. She was the wife of the late Dave Woodard and the daughter of the late Robert and Alice Fox. She was a member of Speedwell Baptist Church in Cullowhee. She loved word find books and playing bingo. She dearly loved her family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers; Grady and Wade (Betty) Fox, an infant sister; Edith Fox, one brother-in-law; Marvin Shuler, and one son-in-law; John Davis. She is survived by one son; David (Marcell) Woodard and one daughter; Patsy Davis. She is also survived by one sister; Hazel Shuler, one sister-in-law; Jeanette Bond, three grandchildren; Phil Fisher, David Fisher and Robert Woodard, several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 17th at Appalachian Funeral Services with Rev. Tracy Mathis and Rev. Johnny Ray Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of the staff at Skyland Care Center for their wonderful care of Essie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Appalachian Funeral Services to help defray the funeral expenses. Appalachian Funeral Services is assisting the family.
