Obituary of Tracy Louin Hooper
Tracy Louin Hooper passed away August 12, 2018 at the age of 71. A native of Tuckasegee, N.C. Tracy was born September, 30, 1946 to Frank Louin Hooper and Dorothy Watson Hooper. He attended Cullowhee High School, graduating in 1964. From 1964 to 1967, he served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War where he was injured and sent to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. Upon recovery, he was assigned to the Army Honor Guard to serve Lyndon B. Johnson. After his military service, he completed his college degree at Western Carolina University. He taught school at Sylva Webster High School and Canton Junior High before deciding to take a sales position at Anton Chevrolet. He worked in the automobile industry primarily in the Atlanta area in sales and management for over thirty years.
Tracy is survived by his parents, Frank and Dot Hooper of Tuckasegee, his wife, Bettie Joubert Hooper of Tuckasegee, his children, Traci Henry (Scott), of Monroe, Georgia, Beth McGeady (John) of Jefferson Georgia, Mandy Mullins, (Keith) of Greer S.C., and Tyler Hooper (Courtney) of Loganville, his stepsons Tyler James and Nathan Allerheiligen, and Andie Hammond. Tracy was Grandad to his grandchildren: Grace Henry, Olivia Henry, Emma McGeady, Audrey McGeady, Aiden McGeady, Wyatt Mullins and Macie Hooper. He is also survived by his siblings: Sandra Hooper (Julie) of Asheville, Mike Hooper (Mona) of Tuckasegee, and Mark Hooper of Sylva.
Tracy loved deer hunting with his brother, his son, nephews, and step sons and close friend, Pete Freeman. He loved taking his daughters to the lake camping and water skiing when they were growing up and even though he worked long hours, he always tried to make it to their swim meets. He was a lifelong fan of most sports, especially the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Western Carolina Catamounts. He loved Sunday afternoons spent eating his mom’s wonderful country cooking and watching NASCAR with his family.
His children are sincerely hoping that there is cable in heaven and that their dad is sitting back enjoying his favorite sports and eating chicken wings. He was very loved and his great personality and wonderful sense of humor will be much missed by his family and friends.
Visitation and Celebration of Tracy’s life will the held at Tuckasegee Baptist Church, Wednesday, August 15, from 12:00 to 1:00 and the service will be held at 1:00 in the sanctuary of the church. The graveside service will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Tuckasegee Baptist Church Cemetery fund. In c/o Mike Hooper 235 Woodring Cemetery Road, Tuckaseegee, N.C.
