Obituary of Gary Thomas Garrison

Gary Thomas Garrison of Whittier, age 45, went home to be with the Lord on August 23rd, 2018, passing away at Skyland Rehabilitation Center from a prolonged illness.

Gary graduated from Western Carolina University with a four-year degree in Business and Sports Marketing. Gary enjoyed many sports such as football, basketball and baseball. He also participated in the Sylva Herald Football Contest every year and was loved by many friends and family.

Gary is the oldest son of Carol Sutton Garrison and Robert Thomas Garrison of the Barker’s Creek Community.

Gary was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his only brother; Jeffrey T. Garrison, a sister-in-law; Stacey Clark Garrison and niece Maddalen. A special cousin, Dee Harkey, also survives.

He is preceded in death by his father; Robert Thomas Garrison and grandparents; Frank and Mary Alice Sutton.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Ashe officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be; Roger Sutton, Mike Patterson, Gary Patterson, Jeremy Brooks, Ira Jones, Johnny Bradley and David Dalton. Burial will follow in the Bradley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
