Obituary of Edward Keene Mohler
Edward Keene Mohler III, 84, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018. “Ed” was born to the late Eleanor Keene Herring and Edward Keene Mohler II on June 16, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio. He spent his early years in Shaker Heights, Ohio then moved to Florida in the 1940’s. After stints in Vero Beach and Miami, where his father worked as a chef and hotel manager, he settled in Fort Lauderdale. Ed graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1952 and it was there that he met his wife of almost 55 years, Margaret “Peggy” Chandelier. He spent two years at Duke University then entered Officer Cadet School for the Air Force in 1956. Ed was based in Dover, Delaware as a USAF Captain and he and Peggy tied the knot in 1957. He retired from active duty in 1963 then finished college and obtained his graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, settling in Fort Lauderdale. Ed remained active in the Air Force Reserve until his Honorable Discharge in 1973. He spent thirty years working as a CPA in South Florida, managing Port Laudania for many years then finishing his career as a Forensic Accountant for the Florida State Attorney’s Economic Crime Unit. He and Peggy retired to their dream community of Cashiers in 2003. Ed was an active member at the Glenville VFW Jimmy Dillard Post. He served on the Friends of Lake Glenville Board as Treasurer for many years. Ed was an active member of the Cashiers United Methodist Church financial committees and spent many hours volunteering for Fishes & Loaves.
Ed was predeceased by his wife, Peggy, and will be deeply missed by his companion, Marie Waid, his brother, EK “Chips” Mohler, his three children, Lauren (husband Bob Lange), Scott (wife Lee Mohler) and Todd (wife Janine Mohler) and his six grandchildren (Ned and Georgia Lange, Abby and Caroline Mohler and Dane and Cole Mohler.)
A “Celebration of Life” Service is planned for Ed Mohler on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 3pm at Cashiers United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richelle Sampl officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
