Obituary of Robert Samuel Shelton

Robert “Robby” Samuel Shelton, age 56, of Cullowhee passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Mission Hospital–Memorial Campus in Asheville, NC.

He was born on December 15, 1961 in Sylva.  Robby worked for Jackson County as an Erosion Control Supervisor.  He is survived by his parents; Carl Rogers Shelton and Annette Moore Shelton; his wife Doris Kuykendall Shelton; children Kimberly Kuykendall Merwin (Myles) and Carlin James Shelton (Kassandra A. Fisher); two sisters, Kara Shelton Jones and Gwendolyn Shelton; one granddaughter, AuBree LaRae Shelton; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Family surrounded Robby during his final days. He was a true mountain man.  Those who knew him best can attest for his love of the mountains that he called home; be it hiking, hunting, fishing, or just camping under the stars.  He spent his time lost in the woods and immersed in the wild. Most times you could find Robby with no shoes, no shirt and a layer of dirt from his hard work.  Although his battles here overcame him, he lived a life well lived!

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Appalachian Funeral Services from 5:00-8:00.  The funeral will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 in the chapel at Appalachian Funeral Services 11:00.  Burial will be at the Rogers Cemetery in Cullowhee.
