Obituary of Ida Mae Wilkes

Ida Mae Wilkes of the Speedwell Community died at her home on Thursday, April 12, 2012 surrounded by family members. A native of Jackson County she was born April 8, 1927 to Zollie and Florence Fox. An active member of Speedwell Baptist Church, she served as Church clerk for 53 years as well as Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible School Coordinator. She was a choir member and sang with several Gospel quartet groups. Besides her parents,she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Charles Alden (Pete) Wilkes just eight months ago, as well as 3 brothers, George Haskett, J.R. Haskett and Sammy Dee Fox. She is survived by four children, Linda Haney (Lamar), Elaine Haskett (Roy), Lenn Wilkes (Dana) and Marvin Wilkes all of Cullowhee. Also 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Sunday April 15, 2012 at Speedwell Baptist Church with the Revs.Roger Stewman, Clemy Queen and Justin Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at Appalachian Funeral Services. An online registry is available at www.appalachianfuneralservices.com . .
