James Brooks

Obituary of James Robert Brooks

James Robert Brooks, age 73, of Dillsboro, NC stepped inside the pearly gates on September 29, 2018 after a period of declining health

James was the son of the late Jess and Bertha Jenkins Brooks.  He is preceded in death by one brother, Alfred Brooks and two sisters, Margaret Green and Annie Nations. He is survived by one brother, Rev. Frank Brooks (Eula) of Dillsboro and several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Locust Field Baptist Church of Dillsboro of which he loved singing in the choir.

Perhaps he was most known for his passion for any opportunity he could get to mow grass, never doubting the perfection of this work.   James, never meeting a stranger, had a contagious smile, stories to tell and a friendly wave to everyone he met.  James enjoyed his walks to town rain or shine, his cups of coffee, Levi Garrett chewing tobacco and listening to the Primitive Quartet.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 3rd at Locust Field Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Carnes, Rev. Jason Buchanan and Rev. Wayne Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, October 2nd from 6:00 till 8:00 pm at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva, NC. Burial will be in Locust Field Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Locust Field Church Cemetery Fund at PO Box 32, Dillsboro, NC  28725
