Mr. Middleton was a remarkable man. I got to know him a bit from visiting him with our youth group a couple of times and again with a small school group. His wife Sally was precious too. They were always so welcoming and gracious with our visits and questions. Mr. Middleton captured our kids' attention with his amazing WWII stories of The Bataan Death March, his 4 long years in Japanese prison camps and the days following his exciting rescue. I am thankful that I got to meet and know Mr. Middleton, even if it was for a short while. I am thankful for his long life and for how many peoples' hearts he blessed. I am grateful that he came through some of the most horrific evils that mankind can conjure up and still be able to love and serve God and man.

Dear Family of Walter Middleton, My father, James Arrington, was one of the men your father wrote about in Flashbacks. He spoke at Dad's funeral almost 20 years ago and gave so much comfort and understanding to my mother, Edna Arrington, and all members of our family. We had so much respect for Rev. Middleton and the story of his life. Our thoughts are with you as he will surely be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Walter. Paul is out of the country but I was able to contact him to let him know. Paul and I both called Walter the week before and had a great conservation with him. We are blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know him and we both share with you in your grief. I will really miss the time we spent visiting as I know paul will...but he always told us that he had his bag packed and was ready to go.

Well I don't even know where to begin. What a joy it was to me and my family many years ago to have Walter as our pastor at Wilkesdale. He and Hazel were just the most wonderful and devoted Christians that I have ever known. I have never met another person in my life that was as humble as Walter Middleton. With all that he went through during the war and the death march and all the pain he suffered he never had an unpleasant word to say about anyone. He was in my thoughts many times over the years, I have all of the books that he wrote and actually was able to come over on one occasion for him to sign one for me and he was just the same wonderful, kind person that he was many years ago at Wilkesdale. Lorna and Arlin I remember you at Wilkesdale and you are so blessed to have had this wonderful man for your father. Now he is with his Heavenly Father and I know there is rejoycing in Heaven today. Our loss but Heaven's gain. May God bless you.

Lorna, Arlin and family. I am so deeply saddened by your loss. Your Daddy meant so much to me. Growing up with him as my pastor, baptizing me and being a Christian mentor to me and all the other children of Wilkesdale was a wonderful blessing. He was a wonderful man and American hero. Heaven has gained another angel. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lorna, Arlin, and family,
I am so saddened to learn of your father's passing. He was undoubtedly one of the finest men that I have ever known, a fine Christian example to everyone he came in contact with. He will be sorely missed, but we certainly do know where he is spending eternity! You will be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks. May your wonderful memories of this fine man console and bring you peace.

Dear Middleton Family,
My heart breaks for you all. Rev Middleton married me and my late husband, Lloyd Sellers, 42 years ago. Hewas such a wonderful friend to Lloyd, going into the old Bowling Alley to talk with him. He gave Lloyd a wonderful foundation in his faith for the Lord. Lloyd died almost 3 months ago so the two of them can be in deep conversation again but this time in a glorious place. My prayers are with you all.

Dear Cousins,
Arlin, Lorna, Orville and families. I had the pleasure of having Walter and Arlin visit me December 2011. What a wonderful reunion after not seeing for many years. I visited Walter @ the Hermitage and had many questions about our family answered. What a Blessing to me bringing many memories of my father, Ransom. Walter served the U.S.A.many times over as well as our community.I cherish his books,re-reading often. Walter finished his journey on earth with great dignity and now has Eternal Life in Heaven.
I Love each of you !

What a wonderful man. He was so good to me and my husband when he pastored at Ochre Hill many years ago. While we are at a loss here Heaven has gained as Mr. Middleton is in the presence of our Lord. My heart goes out to you, family.

Although I never got the pleasure of meeting Mr. Middleton I do know that his heart is of pure gold and his strength is unmeasurable. His books and stories told to me by his family members have inspired me beyond words and changed my outlook on life, humanity and government. Every time I see a US flag flying I think of his dedicated and lifelong sacrifice for all of us and how appreciative we should be for our freedom. Thank You Mr. Middleton for your life's work and legacy you've left us with, you will certainly be missed but never forgotten, what an honorable man to be meeting the Lord today! With much love to the family, Cheryl Eudy

Arlin and family it was such a pleasure to take care of Walter at the Hermitage. He was such a loving man. He always had a pleasant word to say about everyone. I had the pleasure of talking with him many times while I worked the night shift. He told me he wanted to be able to preach one more time and he hoped that it could be at the Hermitage. He was also telling me of the last book he was trying to write. God had other plans for him. May God bless all of you in the tough days to come.
