I just today happened upon this by accident and am deeply saddened by the news. I have so many great memories of our time together in the Soul Happening. Now, every time I hear thunder I'll think of you bangin' the drums. To Mike's family, some that I never met, take comfort in knowing he was a great person and is missed.

Heart of gold...sweet and wonderful man. Always had something kind to say...always called me Mrs Claus after I posted a picture of a play I was in playing Santa Claus wife. Loved seeing him at the 40th class reunion. Know he is strolling the heavens and riding the motorcycle with Putter.

This is to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mike “Bear” Garvin. I have known Mike for many years both before and after our retirements - we both worked on the Parkway - we have kept contact via phone during retirement - I will miss those phone calls immensely as we discussed old times and recent Parkway news. I will always remember Mike’s ability to weld - he could lay a bead that looked like a row of stacked nickels laying on their sides. The other thing I will remember about Mike is his congeniality - he was always willing to provide assistance on the spur of the moment.
RIP Ole Buddy.......I’ll see you on the flip side!!!

My deepest regards to Mike's Family and Friends. He will always be loved and deeply missed by his many friends. Mike and I have been good friends and music compadres since the mid 80's, before the Bear's Den. He worked for the Park Service and I was with the City of Asheville, and we played music on weekends. He played drums and sang remarkably like Greg Allman, one of his favorites. We talked a lot, and grew to be very close friends. He loved his kids, family, and friends, and was one of the most giving and loving people I ever knew. Goodbye for now to the “Grizzly Bear Of Rock & Roll!” I know that God has a special place for him in Heaven. And … we Will see him Again! Gary Cody, Swannanoa, NC
