Earl Hooper was without a doubt one of the great educators of the 20th century in WNC. One only has to look at the accomplishments and recognition of Jackson county schools during his time as an administrator. He was only 36 years old as the Assistant Superintendent when he took the time to drive a young Teacher Corps Intern up to Little Canada to introduce him personally to the faculty. As he drove he shared, and as I much later figured out was teaching all the way up 281. He was always teaching by example as well as explicitly. Every teacher who came in contact with Mr. Hooper was better for it, and that accumulation of knowledge, perspective, understanding and caring translated into quality schools in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.
Thank you Mr. Hooper, thank you.

So sorry for your loss. Earl served on the Board of Trustees for Southwestern Community College where I was the finance officer and privileged to work with him . Even though I worked with Earl, I would have always remembered him. He was my teacher at Cashiers elementary and was called out of the room for a phone call. He returned, obviously upset and reported to the class that JFK had been shot.

We wish to offer our sincere sympathy for the loss of Earl. The
Brasstown decoration will never be the same with him gone.
Never in my lifetime have I known anyone who made more effort
to see the cemetery as beautiful as it was. His leadership
has held the group to what it is today. Good work Earl.

In our thoughts and prayers for the family of Earl. We were blessed to know him in this life. Have missed his smile and always asking, " How is the family doing." His love for the Lord was shown in the way he was a friend to us all. Heaven sure has gained a great one!
