Obituary of Mary Ophelia Hunter

Mary Ophelia Autrey Hunter entered into Eternal Life in the early morning hours of the 3rd of March, 2019, at the Eckerd Living Center in Highlands, NC. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was born on the 5th of February, 1940 in Cashiers, NC. to the late Joseph Hezekiah Autrey and Etrulia Lusk Autrey. . Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband Thomas William Hunter and her only sibling Calvin Alvoyd Autrey Sr., who both died in 2017. Ophie, along with her husband, was an avid race car fan and over the years loved and cared for many fur babies. She was a member of Cashiers Baptist Church. She is survived by 2 Sisters-in-law; Delma Autrey of Sylva and Eloise Hunter of Brevard 3 Nieces; Pam Autrey Bumgarner (Mickey), Patty Autrey Shuler (Steve) both of Sylva and Rebecca Hunter Kitchens of Brevard Nephew- Calvin Alvoyd Autrey Jr (Kathy) of Sylva 5 Great nephews, 3 Great nieces, 9 Great Great nephews, 11 Great Great nieces Barbara Hunter and Odell Aiken also survive. Per her wishes no services are planned. Memorials may be made in her memory to the Humane Society of your choice. . .
