Obituary of Willard Eugene Gregory

Willard Eugene “Gene” Gregory, age 87, of Sylva went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 31, 2019 at his home. He was the son of the late Ed and Ellie Gregory and the husband of the late Margaret Ann Gregory.

He was a member and deacon at East Sylva Baptist Church. He worked as a stocker at Sav-Mor Grocery Store. He loved woodworking, working in his garden and canning jellies. Gene dearly loved his family.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Gene is survived by one daughter; Jean Ann Gregory Cunningham, two granddaughters; Leigh Ann Cunningham and Jessica Cunningham McHan and one great granddaughter; Kalyn McHan. He is also survived by two sisters; Inez Inman and Glee (Carl) Moore, one brother; Joe (Deanna) Gregory and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 2:00 pm at East Sylva Baptist Church with Rev. Reed Benson and Rev. Charles Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Keener Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Gene’s name to: East Sylva Baptist Church, 61 Faith Ave., Sylva, NC 28779.
