Obituary of Elizabeth Inez Shuler

Elizabeth Inez Brooks Shuler, 75, of Sylva, NC, passed away early in the morning with her son at her side on May 13, 2019 at Harris Regional Hospital after a long illness. 

Inez was born December 9, 1944, to Hazel Atlas Buchanan Brooks and Monroe Brooks.  On December 10, 1959, Inez married Grady Lee Shuler from Gainesville, Georgia.  She attended Sylva Webster High School and was a long-time employee of Harris Regional Hospital in the dietary department.  She was a lifelong member of Old Savannah Baptist Church.  She enjoyed reading, making a garden every spring and having her grandchildren around her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her mother and father, and her brothers Charles Windon Brooks and Kenneth Leonard Brooks.  She is survived by her son, Sammy Lee Shuler and his wife Kim; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee Shuler and wife Amber, Christopher Raymond Shuler and fiancée Elizabeth Waldrop, Matthew Brook Shuler, Brittney Lynn Crumbly and husband Matthew.  She is also survived by six great grandchildren.  Also surviving are her brothers Freddie Lee (Bud) Brooks and wife Linda, Merlin Monroe Brooks and wife Cindy; her sisters Reva Lewis, Shirley Mae Parker and husband Larry, Anna Brooks McCall, Virginia Ellen Brooks and Hazel Marie Brooks.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2019, at Old Savannah Baptist Church with visitation being held from 12 pm until 2 pm.  The Celebration of Life service will begin at 2 pm with interment following in the Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Austin Frady, Reverend Eddie Stillwell, Reverend Larry Nations, and Inez’s nephew, Reverend David Hall.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Skyland Nursing Center who provided loving care for Inez for the past seven years.
