Obituary of Harold Jackson Queen
Harold Jackson Queen, 77, of Sylva, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, May 11, 2012 at Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. A native of Jackson County, Harold was born October 22, 1934. He is the son of the late William Early and Essie (Cope) Queen. He was a US Navy veteran, co-founder of the local Moose Lodge, and co-owner of Queen's Drive-In on Skyland Drive. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, having coffee at McDonald's, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of East Sylva Baptist Church.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Denise Queen, brothers Hayes Queen of Sylva and Robert Queen of Oregon, and sisters, Maxine Cunningham and Madge Queen of Sylva and Jeanette Queen of Oregon
Harold is survived by two daughters, Carmen Queen Long of Sylva, and Mary Queen Johnson of Colfax, NC; one son, Harold Kirby Queen of Sylva; two brothers, Charles and Jerry Queen, both of Sylva; two sisters, Sandra Hedden of Franklin and Elaine Greene of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 15 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva with the Rev. Charles Dean officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park #1, Asheville, NC 28801-2426 or the East Sylva Baptist Church Food Fund, 61 Faith Ave, Sylva, NC 28779.
