Obituary of Dave Martin

Andrew Davis Martin of Tuckasegee, 97 died peacefully August 5th. He was the son of Pink and Modenia Martin, and was preceded in death by his wife Doris Swafford Martin, a son Michael, sisters Lilly, Nellie, Minnie, Mary, June, brothers Troy, Claude, and John, and a son-in-law Bob Sherman. He is survived by daughters Sandra Ausburn (David), Gail Otto (Richard) and Glenda Sherman; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and caregivers Donna Coggins and Elizabeth Franks.

Davis served three years during WWII Europe Invasion in the United States Army as a Technical Sergeant in the 396 Combat Squadron Yellow Flight Crew. He retired from Nantahala Power and Light Company Thorp Plant, in Tuckasegee. He was an original founder and builder of the Mike Martin VFW Post 9493 in Tuckasegee, where he served several terms as post commander. He loved spending time sitting on his porch, reading his bible, and telling wonderful stories about all his adventures growing up in a time where if you wanted to go anywhere you had to walk.

Services will be held Saturday August 10, at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva, NC where family will receive friends at 1:00. Reverend Jack Hinson will conduct services beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel and military rites will follow. Burial will be in the Tuckasegee Baptist Church cemetery.
